Although the work is not signed it is believed to be the work of Albert Raty (1889 -1970) a well known Belgian painter. The attribution is based on the style and the subject matter (he often painted in the areas). In addition the frame, although slightly imperfect, is something special and the painting itself has a professional repair at some date in the past suggesting it was a work of value

Arthur Redgate was a well known Nottingham based painter who exhibited between 1880 and 1906. He was a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists from 1881 onwards. He lived at Castle Donnington in Derbyshire from 1886 until 1893 when he moved to West Bridgford. Givemn the proximity of Castle Donnington and Shardlow its likely the painting was executed between 1886 and 1893. He exhibited widely including no less than 28 times at the Royal Academy.

Thomas Benjamin Kennington was born in Grimsby in 1856. He became a member of the New English Arts club in 1888 and a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1889. He became vice president of the ROI in 1908. He exhibited widely including no less than 72 times at the Royal Academy
