W A Paterson was born in 1896 and attended the Glasgow School of Art in the first part of the 20th century. He exhibited at several galleries including P & J Fine Art, the Castlegait galleries and entered many works in the Royal Glasgow Institute, the Paisley Gallery & Museum and the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock.

This is clearly painted by an established artist and shows very heavy use of paint. The frame is original so shows some signs of wear and tear but still suits the work.
